Making Public Involvement in Research More Inclusive of People With Complex Speech and Motor Disorders: The I-ASC Project

In this study, we aimed to identify processes that enabled the involvement of a person with complex speech and motor disorders parent young these as co-researchers in U.K. research project. Semi-structured individual focus group interviews explored participants’ experiences perceptions public (PI). Sixteen participants were recruited, representation from (a) interdisciplinary project team; (b) academics engaged discrete activities; (c) individuals providing organizational operational support; (d) project’s two advisory groups. Data analyzed using Framework Analysis. Five themes generated: challenge defining co-researcher role; power relations PI; resources used enable perceived benefits (e) facilitators successful PI. Our findings provide new evidence about how inclusive teams can support people contribute meaningfully co-produced research.
